Sweatt To Play At Colorado College

EHK Sports Alum To Play In The WCHA

CHICAGO - EHK Sports Enterprises is proud to announce that Lee Sweatt has accepted a scholarship to play hockey for Colorado College in the WCHA next season.  Lee played for EHK Sports at the 2002 Prospects Tournaments, where he had a coming out of sorts.

"We almost missed the boat with Lee.  He was a late add for our Prospects team, but I am very glad we got him." said EHK Sports CEO Eric H. Krupka, "Lee had been playing midgets and was getting ready for juniors so we thought he would play well.  Not only did he exceed our expectations but he was one of the most talked about defenseman at the tournament.  Lee stepped right in, eyes wide, and showed he could be a big-time player.  When I heard he signed with Colorado College I was very happy for him, I know he will do well."

This season Lee plays for the Chicago Steel of the United States Hockey League where he plays in front of his fellow Prospects teammate Adam D'Alba.  Lee has really come into his own this season, as every game he gets better.  At 5'10" 180lbs, Lee will step into the collegiate game as a true freshman, with an '85 birthdate.  2004 will be his NHL Entry Draft year and hopefully we will hear his name called.  EHK Sports is proud to have Lee as part of our family and wish him the best of luck as he finishes his junior career and heads to Div I.  The following is an article from the U.S. Hockey News about Lee's signing:

How Sweatt It Is

Steel Defenseman Commits To Colorado College

USHN Exclusive

Next year, Colorado College will need some offensive minded right-shooting defensemen.

Who better than Lee Sweatt to fit the bill.

Sweatt, a fast rising blueline star about to embark on his first season of juniors with the USHL's Chicago Steel, gave his verbal commitment to the Tigers late last week after having visited Colorado Springs two weeks ago.

"It's a great campus," said the 5-10 180 pound native of Elburn, Illinois, "and what I really like is their 'block' academic system, because it's so much like the one I'm used to at my high-school."

The system to which the 17 year-old Sweatt speaks is unique to only a few schools-Colorado College being one of them-whereby students take but one course at a time before moving onto the next instead of taking numerous courses all at once. Sweatt says Kaneland High School of Maple Park, Illinois, the school he currently attends as a senior, has a similar arrangement, which made Colorado College all the more attractive to him.

After only one season with the AAA Chicago Mission-where he scored 15 goals and 44 points-Sweatt made a quick name for himself this summer by starring for both the Central District Team at USA Hockey's Select-17 festival, and Team USA's entry at the Eight Nations tournament held in the Czech Republic. That's where Tiger head coach Scott Owens first saw him, and took an immediate interest.

"What's most impressive to me is that he's only an '85," says Steel head coach AJ. Toews, who was an assistant coach for this year's Central District side, "for a guy who hasn't played junior yet, I think it's great he got such an offer from a big time school."

Toews loves what he sees in Sweatt, and can't wait for him to start patrolling Chicago's blueline. "He's got tons of energy, and he does things many defenseman his age wouldn't have the confidence to do."

Chicago begins its season this weekend when it plays at the Buc Bowl Tournament in Des Moines.
